The making of an unbeard (and how Albert fits into all of this)

Well, I had gotten lazy after the summer, and the hair and beard had continued to grow unchecked. It had been a long time since I had hair as long as I had, and that was interesting ... to a point. I was thinking I would go until Christmas time, and then "do the Santa thing", but I had already "been there, done that" as the youths say these days.

Also, Christmas was too far away (I wasn't going to last that long) - Halloween was right around the corner ... Santa at Halloween ... nah .... hmm, 2005 is the 100 year anniversary of Einstein's great year (1905, three major papers, including one on Relativity, and one on photoelectric effect, that earned him a Nobel Prize!). Hmm, Einstein ... well, got the straggly hair .. got the white hair spray ... got the bushy mustache ... but, the beard ... oh, the beard has to go?

See, this is no small thing .. the last time I have had the beard completely shaved off was in college. [A girlfriend and her friend begged me to shave it off .. I finally did, as a surpise -- they took one look and said, "Oh, it was better before." ... Women!?! ] So, 22 years since the skin on my chin has seen the light of day!

Well, since we all know that I have a huge ego, and since I obviously have too much time on my hands (or at least, choose to waste it) - I've made a webpage to document the journey .... I guess I should say "enjoy"?

The tools needed for the gruesome job!

The beginning of the process - the hair (though slightly flattened here) is longer than it has been in recent terms ...

Let me tell you, it took alot to get to this step .. I almost chickened out!

But, after it was begun, it got frighteningly easy ...

Halfway done!

[My one regret in all this ... I had in my head that if I ever shaved off my beard and mustache, I would shave the left half of the beard and the right half of the mustache and leave it like that, at least for a day or two - just for the novelty of it. But, since I needed the mustache for Einstein, I couldn't fulfill that particular dream ... someday ...

Well, that's it for the major stuff with the beard trimmer ...

What is this piece of ancient technology?

And so begins the revealing of skin that hasn't seen the light of day in about 22 years ...

Well, that's the shaven Dr. Scott .. pretty scary huh?

Now, members of my family might notice a resemblence (discounting the goofy face I'm making) ... I get a flashback of my Uncle Pete when I was a kid.

The dreaded hair spray!

Eagle-eyed viewers will notice that the shower curtain has changed, and the hair is slightly different ... this is actually two different days, I shaved the beard on Sunday ... in case I was going to nick myself, I needed time to heal - luckily, no blood was drawn!

The start of the process (you might notice the eyeglasses are slightly fogged from the spray)!

Here is the end of the process (it looked whiter in real life - the color balance might be a little off, and the hair might not be "lit" as well as it could be).

Basically, this is the kind of person you want in front of a classroom, right .. quite the professional!

Later that day (literally) - the final part of the transformation.

There was a presentation that I was scheduled to make later that day, so I decided to "clean up my act" a little ... unfortunately, the presentation was rescheduled - doh!

A little montage for ya ...

Good night ...

Tip your waiters and waitresses ...

Drive safely!
