Tech Physics 2 Lab - Lab 7 Kirchhoff's Laws

Equipment List for Lab7

  • 1 5-volt and 1 12-volt power supply
  • 1 Resistor Box (using resistors R1, R2, and R3)
  • 1 Multimeter
  • 2 9-volt "dead" batteries, 1 dead 1 alive, with connector (not shown in the picture)
  • Assorted wires
  • 1 plastic box with various elements in it (refer to the next picture for the contents in the cup)

The 220Ohm resistor

There are several things inside the plastic cup, we DO NOT need all of them. We will just use the 220Ohm resistor (highlighted in the picture) and several alligator clips. There is another 2200Ohm resistor in the box, please ask your instructor to help you identiry the 220Ohm one.

Measuring the "emf" of the battery

The alligator clips connect to the wires of the 9-volt connector cap. The multimeter (not shown) plugs into the alligator clips.

Measuring the voltage for a loaded circuit

In this case, we add the 220 ohm resistor - so that the alligator clips clamp onto the 9-volt wires and the ends of the resistor at the same time.
