How do I .. Store, Examine, Annotate, or get Statistics from a data run in Logger Pro?

How can I move a data run "into the background" so I can compare it with a later run? .. Store it!

  1. Go to the DATA menu item
  2. Select Store Latest Run
  3. It will name them Run1, Run2, etc.

Store Latest Run

Can I change the name of the run? Sure!

  1. Go to the DATA menu item
  2. Select Rename Run - and select which one.
  3. Create the new name for this data set.

When will you see the name? Look in the Examine or Annotation section below!

How can I get numerical information about different points in a data set? Use the EXAMINE feature.

The image on the right shows several of the "examine" buttons we will use - most often the Examine and Statistics button.

Click on Axis to rescale

What does the EXAMINE tool show me?

  1. Click on the Examine button on the toolbar.
  2. As you move your mouse back and forth along the data, there is a dialog box that shows the current value of whatever is on the Y axis, and whatever is on the X axis. (In this case, we have a "stored" dataset called Hanging Masses, and nothing in the Latest set.)
  3. To eliminate the dialog boxes, you can click off the Examine button, or individually close the dialog boxes with the little tiny X in the upper right corner.

How can I "annotate" my graphs?

Annotations are like little sticky notes that go on the graph - you can write in them (about 128 characters) and then move them around as needed. They can be very useful for keeping information clearly labeled (especially with multiple data sets on one graph).

  1. Go to the ANALYZE menu item, and select Make annotation.
  2. A dialog box will pop up asking for the text.
  3. The lower image shows an example of what the annotation looks like on the graph - you can move it around, or delete it by clicking the little tiny X in the upper right corner.

How can I get numerical data from my graphs?

Using the EXAMINE tool, a desired region can be selected. Then, by clicking the STAT button (see toolbar image above), we can get max/min/mean information about the variable plotted in that interval we selected.

  1. Using the EXAMINE tool, make a selection (see top image to the right).
  2. Click on the STATS button (two buttons to the right of the EXAMINE button on the toolbar).
  3. If you have multiple data sets, you will get a "selection" box (middle image) that allows you to deselect data runs if necessary.
  4. You will get an "annotation box" for each of the data sets that are available in that range (in the lower image, you can see two data runs). These statistics boxes will probably pop up on top of each other, but they can be moved around - and they have the added benefit of having a line connecting them to their particular dataset!.
  5. Like the annotation boxes, if you want to close them, use the teeny tiny X in the upper right corner.
